About this test

This panel measures four essential micronutrients that are among the most commonly deficient in adults — magnesium, folate, vitamin B12, and vitamin D — using a single blood draw. Micronutrient deficiencies often develop gradually and can cause wide-ranging symptoms, including fatigue, muscle cramps, numbness, mood changes, and bone loss, long before a deficiency becomes severe enough to detect without testing.

These four nutrients are frequently under-consumed through diet, and deficiency is common across a wide range of demographics — not just those following restrictive diets. Identifying low levels allows for targeted supplementation or dietary correction before symptoms progress.

Components

  • Magnesium: The fourth most abundant mineral in the body, involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions — including energy production, protein synthesis, nerve signal transmission, and blood pressure regulation. Low magnesium is associated with muscle cramps, fatigue, irregular heartbeat, anxiety, and poor sleep. It is commonly depleted by processed food diets, high alcohol intake, certain medications (including diuretics and proton pump inhibitors), and type 2 diabetes.
  • Vitamin B9 (Folate): A water-soluble B vitamin essential for DNA synthesis, cell division, and the production of healthy red blood cells. Folate deficiency causes megaloblastic anemia (abnormally large, poorly functioning red blood cells) and elevated homocysteine levels, a marker associated with cardiovascular risk. It is critically important during early pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects. Deficiency is common in people with poor diets, heavy alcohol use, or malabsorption conditions.
  • Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin): Essential for nerve function, DNA synthesis, and red blood cell production. Deficiency develops slowly — often over years — and can cause fatigue, weakness, numbness and tingling in the hands and feet, memory problems, and megaloblastic anemia. It is particularly common in older adults (due to reduced stomach acid and intrinsic factor), people following vegan or vegetarian diets, and those who have had gastric surgery.
  • Vitamin D (25-OH, Total): Reflects your overall vitamin D stores. Vitamin D regulates calcium absorption from the gut, bone mineralization, immune function, and muscle strength. Deficiency is widespread — particularly in people with limited sun exposure, darker skin tones, older adults, and those who are obese. Low levels are associated with weak bones (osteomalacia in adults), increased fracture risk, poor immune response, and fatigue.

Who is this test for?

This panel is appropriate for adults experiencing unexplained fatigue, muscle weakness or cramps, numbness, mood changes, or difficulty concentrating. It is also well-suited for people following plant-based or calorie-restricted diets, older adults, people with digestive conditions that affect nutrient absorption (such as Crohn's disease or celiac disease), and those who spend limited time outdoors. It serves as a practical nutritional baseline before or during supplementation.
