Lab Test
AllergyRespiratory Allergy Panel — Expanded
About this test
This expanded panel tests for sensitivity to 25 airborne allergens — covering a wider range of grasses, weeds, tree pollens, molds, and indoor allergens than the basic panel. It's designed for people with significant or complex allergy symptoms who want a more complete picture of what they're reacting to, or for those pursuing allergy immunotherapy (allergy shots or drops) that requires detailed allergen profiling.
Component testing identifies each specific allergen your immune system is reacting to, which allows an allergist to design a more precise and effective treatment plan.
Components
- Grass pollens (Bermuda, Timothy, Johnson grass): Johnson grass is added in this expanded panel — a warm-season grass common in the South that extends the allergy season.
- Weed pollens (Ragweed, Pigweed, Sheep sorrel): The main fall allergy culprits, with ragweed producing billions of pollen grains per plant each season.
- Tree pollens (Maple, Birch, Mountain cedar, Oak, Elm, Walnut, Cottonwood, White ash, Hickory/pecan, White mulberry): A comprehensive tree pollen screen covering spring and winter tree seasons. Mountain cedar (Ashe juniper) is a major winter allergen in Texas and the Gulf region.
- Molds (Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium herbarum, Aspergillus fumigatus): Outdoor and indoor mold spores that trigger allergy and asthma year-round, with peaks in warm and humid months.
- Indoor allergens (Cat, Dog, Mouse urine, Cockroach, Dust mite): The most common sources of perennial (year-round) allergy symptoms in homes and workplaces.
Who is this test for?
This panel is best suited for people with persistent or severe respiratory allergy symptoms that have not been fully explained by basic testing, or for those considering allergen immunotherapy (shots or sublingual drops). A broader allergen profile can help confirm additional triggers and support more targeted treatment planning.
