General WellnessDiabetes Risk Test Panel
About this test
This panel screens for prediabetes and diabetes using multiple markers, providing a more complete assessment of blood sugar status than a single test alone. It's ideal for people who have risk factors for diabetes — including overweight or obesity, a family history of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes history, or physical inactivity — but have not yet been diagnosed.
Using both the A1c and fasting glucose tests together increases accuracy and catches cases that each test might miss individually. Identifying prediabetes is an opportunity: with lifestyle changes, many people in this range can prevent or significantly delay the development of type 2 diabetes.
Components
- Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c): Reflects your average blood sugar over 2–3 months. A1c between 5.7–6.4% indicates prediabetes; 6.5% or higher on two separate occasions is diagnostic for diabetes.
- Fasting Glucose: Your blood sugar after fasting for at least 8 hours. A fasting glucose of 100–125 mg/dL indicates prediabetes (impaired fasting glucose); 126 mg/dL or higher on two tests indicates diabetes.
- Cholesterol and Lipid Panel: People with insulin resistance and prediabetes commonly have an unfavorable lipid pattern — high triglycerides, low HDL, and elevated LDL — which raises cardiovascular risk. Identifying this early allows for combined lifestyle and medical intervention.
Who is this test for?
This panel is designed for adults who have one or more risk factors for type 2 diabetes — including overweight or obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, a family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, or a history of gestational diabetes. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends screening for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes in adults aged 35 to 70 who are overweight or obese.
