Lab Test
General WellnessFatigue Test Panel
About this test
Persistent fatigue that doesn't improve with rest is one of the most common reasons people seek medical testing. This panel screens for six of the most frequent and treatable biological causes of fatigue — thyroid dysfunction, anemia (from low iron or B vitamin problems), blood sugar dysregulation, metabolic imbalance, and chronic illness.
A normal result doesn't mean there's nothing wrong, but it rules out the most common lab-detectable causes and helps focus next steps. Abnormal results will point your clinician toward the most likely explanation and appropriate treatment.
Components
- Complete Blood Count (CBC): Checks for anemia (low red blood cells or hemoglobin), which is one of the most common causes of fatigue, especially in women of reproductive age.
- Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP): Assesses kidney function, liver health, blood sugar, and electrolytes. Many metabolic imbalances — from low blood sugar to kidney or liver problems — can cause significant fatigue.
- Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c): Reflects average blood sugar over 2–3 months. Uncontrolled diabetes and prediabetes frequently cause fatigue, increased thirst, and poor concentration.
- Ferritin: Your iron storage marker. Iron deficiency — especially low ferritin without full anemia — is a very common and treatable cause of fatigue, particularly in women with heavy periods.
- TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone): Screens for thyroid dysfunction. An underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) commonly causes fatigue, weight gain, cold sensitivity, and brain fog; an overactive thyroid can also cause exhaustion over time.
- Free T4: Measured automatically when TSH is abnormal. Provides a direct look at the main thyroid hormone in circulation, helping clarify whether a thyroid problem is present and how significant it is.
Who is this test for?
This panel is a good starting point for anyone dealing with persistent, unexplained tiredness that does not improve with rest. It checks the most common treatable causes of fatigue — including anemia, thyroid dysfunction, blood sugar issues, vitamin deficiencies, and inflammation — in a single draw. It is appropriate for adults of any age who want to rule out a physical cause before exploring other explanations.
